"Treacherous Paths"

by: Drew Ciccotelli

Bender is asleep in his apartment and is mumbling something to himself.

Bender: “Oh countess, please don’t leave me, come back.”

In Bender’s dream he relives the moment where he lost the countess.

Countess: “I’m slipping, the pull is to strong.”

Bender: “I can’t live without you, if you let go I let go.”

Countess: “No, you have to much to live for.” “I may hurt for a while, but one day you will share your love again, after all its shareware.”

Bender: “Don’t talk like that, tragic romances always have a happy ending.”

The necklace breaks and the countess pulled toward the blackhole.

Countess: “Farewell!”

Bender: Nooooooo!”

Back in Bender’s Apartment Fry comes in from the closet.

Fry: “Wake up, Bender.”

Bender: “What’s the point, my love is gone and I’ll never see her again.”

Fry: “Don’t worry buddy, I’m kinda sure that she could make her way back to you.”

Bender: “Do you really think so?

Fry: “It all depends.”

Bender: “Depends on what?”

Fry: “If she survived the blackhole.”

Bender: “You’re no help, now leave me with my sorrow.”

Fry: “Okay.”

The next day Fry, Leela, and Dr. Zoidberg are sitting around the meeting table as Bender walks through the door with rust all around his mouth and full bottle of unopened beer. Leela: “Have you been out not drinking again.”

Bender: “If you must know I was, but the pain is nothing compared to my broken heart.”

Fry: “I didn’t know robots had hearts.”

Bender: “Well they do and mine is broken into 6.0983 pieces.”

Leela: “That’s so sad.”

Zoidberg: “What is troubling you so?”

Bender: “If you haven’t noticed, my love is gone forever.”

Zoidberg: “Oh that’s what it is.”

Fry: “We could go out and have some fun to fix you hear.”

Leela: “Yeah Bender, maybe some fun will help you take your mind off of her for a while.”

Bender: “Nothing can take my mind off of her, nothing.”

Fry: “We could go to Neon Las Vegas or maybe even Turbo Monte Carlo.”

Bender: “Close enough, let’s go.”

They arrive in Neon Las Vegas at nightfall, but it is always nightfall due to Charles Montgomery Burns’ invention that blocks out the sun supplying the local electrical company with more money than Bill Gates’ golden head.

Fry: “Wow, this is a lot bigger than I imagined it to be.”

Leela: “How big did you think it was going to be, it takes up the whole state of Nevada and part of the island of California.”

Bender: “You do know guys that you’re here for me, so lets get gambling.”

Fry: “Yeah!” “Wait a minute, did you guys bring any money?”

Leela: “I didn’t, did you Bender?”

Bender: “I handle that.”

Leela: “Okay, but promise me you won’t steal from the Robotic Mafia again.”

Bender: “Who do you think I am, Fry.”

Fry: “Hey!”

Bender walks into the Casino to look for easy prey. He finds an old woman playing slots and tries to steal her coin bucket but she sees him and hits him with her walker. He goes up to a robot in a Roman centurion costume and tries to steal his wallet and is beaten with his club. Finally he sees a robot woman wearing very expensive dress with red hair.

Bender: “Perfect.”

As he begins to reach his hand into her purse she turns around.

Bender: “I wasn’t try to steal anything…”

She cuts him off.

Countess: “Hello Bender.”

Back outside Leela and Fry are waiting for Bender.

Leela: “What is taking him so long.”

Fry: “It usually doesn’t take him this long to steal from people in a casino.” “I came prepared for something just like that to happen to me, so I put a chain on my wallet and hooked it to my pants.” “Hey where’s my pants?”

Back inside Bender is still trying to comprehend his amazement at to the reappearance of his lost love.

Bender: “But how..?”

Countess: “Did I survive the blackhole, well when I woke up inside the blackhole I was consumed by complete darkness with only a small ray of light emanating from far away.” “I tried to reach it but as I moved closer it stayed the same length away from me.” “I walked for weeks until finally the light went out, I could do nothing to bring it back and I passed out from fear of never seeing it again.”

Bender: “But how did you escape?”

Countess: “When I awoke I heard a sound in the distance, I went toward the sound began to fall, I fell for hours upon hours until I lost conciseness.” “I then awoke in a terrible place, but that is not important, the important thing is that I have returned to you and we will never be apart again.”

Bender: “Oh, how I missed you.” “When I lost you I could not think of anything else that would mend my broken heart.”

Countess: “Oh, Bender.”

Bender: “My love.”

They kiss.

Outside Fry and Leela are still waiting for Bender to return when they see a red pitchfork in the crowd of people walking into the casino.

Leela: “Did you see that Fry?”

Fry: “See what?”

Leela: “The pitchfork.”

Fry: “Was it all red and pointy?”

Leela: “Yes.”

Fry: “Can’t say I saw did.”

Leela: “Oh, never mind.”

In the casino Bender and the Countess begin to play craps, poker, and slots while not taking their eyes off one another.

They go upstairs and the Countess opens a door with her keycard. Inside the room is dark and quiet. Suddenly the light burst casing Bender to rub his eyes. Out from the far door appears Beelzebot.

Beelzebot: “Welcome Bender, to your very own Robot Hell.”

Outside Leela and Fry are still waiting for Bender to come out.

Leela: “Maybe we should go in and see if we can find him.”

Fry: “Okay, but first, I have to go to the bathroom, it has been 12 hours since Bender went in.”

In the Countess’ room Beelzebot is finishing tying down Bender.

Beelzebot: “I must thank you my dear Countess for you good work in helping me find Bender.” Bender: “But why my dear?”

Countess: “He threatened to send me back into the darkness of the blackhole if I didn’t help him.”

Beelzebot: “Now that your job is complete you are of no use to me, I am sending you back into the blackhole.”

Countess: “Noooooooo!”

Bender: “Nooooooooo!”

She disappears in a puff of smoke.

Bender: “Why have you done that?”

Beelzebot: “Because, when you escaped Robot Hell I was fired and without a job I was an outcast among robots.” “I needed to be feared and without my devil status that you took away from me I could not accomplish this.”

Bender: “You had no right to send her back into the blackhole.”

Beelzebot: “I had every right to do what I wish.” “When I bring you back to the Robot Hell High Council, I will be reinstated as the supreme devil again, not like that fake one the human believe in.” “Now I am going to off-line you forever.”

Bender: “But don’t you need me to get your job back?”

Beelzebot: “Of course I do, but they said nothing about you being alive.”

Just then the door to the room comes crashing down and Leela and Fry come rushing in.

Leela: “I hope this is the right room, that old women with the bellboy wasn’t a pretty site.”

Fry: “I got it on video.”

Bender: “Will you two shut up and help me.”

Beelzebot: “Ah, if it isn’t my two human friends again.” “Come to bash me in the head with another gold fiddle?”

Leela: “No, now it’s a chair.”

She smashes the chair on Beelzebot’s head.

Beelzebot: “Ahhhh!”

Beelzebot falls to the floor unconscious.

Fry: “Do you know how long we have been waiting for you?”

Bender: “Twenty minutes.”

Fry: “Oh, you’re right, my watch is fast.”

Leela: “I’m glad to see you’re all right.” “What happened here?”

Bender: “Lets just say I’m back to my old self.”

Fry: “That’s great Bender, except for one thing, I still have to go to the bathroom.”
